About Us

Our story starts way back

My name is Weda Petersen. Born and raised in the community of Hangberg, in Hout Bay, a suburb of  Cape Town, South Africa often regarded as the “Cape Flats” which is associated with very limited resources and opportunities, poverty and lack of women empowerment. I witnessed oppression and lack of opportunities in particular with women and children. This inspired me in wanting to make a difference in impoverished communities. I wanted to empower women in becoming leaders, to have a voice of their own. To realise their full potential and making their dreams a reality. To get the kids off the streets and away from negative influences. I decided to take a giant leap of faith and form ForestChild, a company that will encompass all my visions and mission to make a difference. To create a platform for less fortunate to grow and succeed.

Our Vision

Our vision at ForestChild is for the betterment of impoverished communities. We aim to assist in getting children off the streets and involved in many activities to enrich and transform their mindsets and to focus on their full potential. We are also for the empowerment of women and youth of limited means and resources. To empower the less fortunate people that needs help, also focusing on the homeless, abused people who are willing to seek help and change their circumstances. We would like to help them ultimately improve their lives and in so doing becoming an ambassador of their communities and positive examples to others in similar situations.

Our Mission

At ForestChild, our mission is to provide services by upskilling and training within disadvantaged communities. With the ambit of amongst others, Health and safety training services. To work together within the educational sector, empowerment programs and workshops for women and youth to seek out their skills, abilities and potential and to promote it. To become involved in community upliftment programs, environmental awareness and vegetation projects. To provide holistic healing and counselling services across the board. To encourage product sales for communities by providing a platform, such as outdoor market days for arts and crafts. To provide workshops and training on health and safety. This is to be done through sustainable projects which involves community leaders, youth role players, NGO’s and NPO’s.
